Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, August 11, 2022: Malaysia’s double gold medallist at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Ng Joe Ee, received a special welcome home from the UK on Tuesday, August 9.
The 16-year-old rhythmic gymnast, who won gold in the ball and ribbon events, was greeted by Dato’ Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar, Vice President of the Commonwealth Games Association Malaysia and Chair of the Olympic Council of Malaysia Women and Sport Committee.
“The rhythmic gymnastics team consisting of three young gymnasts - Koi Sie Yan (23), Izzah Amzan (21) and Ng Joe Ee (16) - contributed three medals (two golds and one bronze) for the Malaysian contingent,” said Dato’ Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar.
“We are very proud of these young gymnasts because, based on the statistics, they have contributed 28.6% of the gold medals, 12.5% of the bronze medals and 13% of the overall medals won by the Malaysian contingent at the XXII Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022.”
On behalf of the CGA Malaysia, Dato’ Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar presented bouquets of flowers and chocolates to Ng and rhythmic gymnastics teammate Izzah Amzan (bronze in clubs).
Malaysia won seven gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals for a total of 23 medals to finish 10th in the overall medals table at Birmingham 2022.
