Konya, Turkey, August 10, 2022: The President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, attended the opening ceremony of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games on Tuesday, August 9 on behalf of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
The opening ceremony was presided over by the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and was attended by a number of presidents of Islamic states, heads of government and guests.
During the course of the ceremony, QOC President Sheikh Joaan conveyed the greetings of HH the Amir to President Erdogan and His Highness’s wishes to the brotherly Turkish people.
Sheikh Joaan later attended the dinner banquet hosted by President Erdogan in honour of the guests attending the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Qatar is represented by 112 athletes in 14 sports at the Games which end on August 18.
