Konya, Turkey, August 9, 2022: HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, President of the Saudi Olympic & Paralympic Committee and President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation, attended the opening ceremony of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey on Tuesday, August 9.
The Games, postponed from 2021 due to the pandemic and still referred to as Konya 2021, will feature 54 Islamic countries and run from August 9-18.
On behalf of the President, HH Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, SOPC Vice President and delegation Chef de Mission, attended the opening events of the Games alongside the Deputy CDM, Ms Adwaa Al-Arifi, on Monday when Saudi Arabia won two medals: a silver for discus thrower Mohammed Tolu and a bronze for Ali Alkhadrawi in table tennis.
Saudi Arabia is represented by more than 130 male and female athletes.
The ISG carries a special memory for Saudi Arabia as the Kingdom hosted the inaugural edition in 2005 in the Makkah region and led the ranking with 60 medals (24 gold, 17 silver, 19 bronze).
