Bangladesh Olympic Association receives Sheikh Kamal National Sports Council Award

Dhaka, Bangladesh, August 9, 2022: The Bangladesh Olympic Association was one of the winners of the prestigious Sheikh Kamal National Sports Council Awards 2022 last Friday, August 5.

The awards ceremony took place with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joining online from her official residence and overseeing the distribution of the awards to nine sports personalities and two organisations, including the Bangladesh Olympic Association which won the coveted prize for Best Organisation.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russel handed over the awards to the recipients on behalf of the Premier.

Among the winners in the sports personality category were cricketer Liton Das, Abdullah Hel Baki (shooting) and weightlifter Mollah Sabira Sultana. Emerging athletes Diya Siddique (archery) and Mohammad Shariful Islam (cricket) also won awards.

Each award winner received one lakh Taka (US$1,000), a crest and a certificate. The Ministry of Youth and Sports introduced the awards for the first time last year on the occasion of Sheikh Kamal’s birth anniversary. Sheikh Kamal is the eldest son of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
