Hong Kong, China, August 9, 2022: Jointly organised by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and the Shun Hing Group, the presentation ceremony of the Panasonic Sports Scholarship Programme was held on Monday, August 8 at Olympic House.
In the programme, 10 awardees will receive a total scholarship of HK$3,456,000 (443,000 USD) for the preparation of participation in the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Since 2010, the programme has assisted athletes to better prepare and strive for the best results by providing financial support towards specialised coaching, cost of their local/overseas training, medical assistance and other items that would assist the athletes.
The 10 awardees are: Jessica Ching Siu Nga (athletics), Angus Ng Ka Long (badminton), Ryan Choi Chun Yin (fencing), Coco Lin Yik Hei (fencing), Chiu Hin Chun (rowing), Ho Ian Yentou (swimming), Ho Kwan Kit (table tennis), Lee Ho Ching (table tennis), Chong Eudice Wong (tennis) and Oscar Coggins (triathlon).
Each awardee will receive a 32-month subsidy of HK$345,600 (44,300 USD) in total from January 2022 to August 2024 supported by the Shun Hing Group.
The recipients said they were very grateful for the scholarship as it would help with their overseas training and competitions, especially due to the ongoing quarantine protocols still in place in Hong Kong.
The programme also provides financial assistance to acquire new equipment and medical treatment for improving their performance.
SF&OC President Timothy Fok and David Mong, Chairman and Group CEO of Shun Hing Group, were the officiating guests and presented commemorative certificates to the awardees.
President Fok expressed his sincere gratitude to the Shun Hing Group for their generous contribution towards Hong Kong sports development and conveyed heartfelt congratulations to all awardees.
“Our athletes achieved record-breaking results in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which were the collective efforts from different stakeholders leading to their success. With the establishment of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau on 1 July 2022, I believe that it will enhance the development of the sports industry in the long run and bring it to a higher level,” he said.
Mong added: “The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games has been postponed to 2023. Many athletes have continued to train hard and participated in different international competitions in order to prepare for the upcoming Asian Games.
“Shun Hing Group hopes that the programme can assist all awardees to focus on their training and better equip themselves.”
He hoped the athletes would continue to break their own records and strive for excellence in the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games in September 2023 and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
