Jakarta, Indonesia, August 8, 2022: The Indonesia Olympic Committee is offering its full support to developing handball in the country with the aim of appearing at the Olympic Games.

This was stated by the President of Indonesia NOC, Raja Sapta Oktohari, when receiving the new management of the Indonesian Handball Association (ABTI) in Senayan, Jakarta.

According to Oktohari, the new management should be more active in promoting the social aspects of handball in the country, especially as it is a popular sport in the Olympic Games.

"Handball is not popular in Indonesia, but it is an Olympic sport. Hopefully, with the new management, handball can be more successful,” said Oktohari, who received the elected ABTI Chair, Zulfydar Zaidar Mochtar, and his team.

In addition, Oktohari also explained to Zulfydar to prepare athletes for the ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023 as beach handball is on the programme.

“The 2023 ANOC World Beach Games will be a tough task for handball. There is only one year to appear in the AWBG. I hope Mr. Zulfydar can already start preparing the best athletes and coaches," said Okto.

During the meeting, ABTI Chair Zulfydar reported to the NOC Indonesia President his plans for the future.

In addition to strengthening the organisation in an effort to achieve maximum performance at the world level, they also want to provide handball camps for kids and add it to the sports curriculum for primary and secondary schools.

“We need the support of all parties in developing handball, including the Indonesian NOC," explained Zulfdyar.
