Dhaka, Bangladesh, July 31, 2022: The Bangladesh Olympic Association observed Olympic Day at Dhaka on Saturday, July 30.
Due to the recent flooding in various divisional cities of Bangladesh, the BOA could not celebrate Olympic Day on the customary date of June 23.
The new date of July 30 was finalised with the approval of the International Olympic Committee. To spread the spirit of Olympism, NOC Bangladesh organised flag hoisting, a seminar and a children's art competition to mark Olympic Day 2022.
Flag Hoisting
The ceremony was held at NOC Bangladesh HQ. Vice President of NOC Bangladesh and President of Bangladesh Archery Federation, General Mainul Islam (Retd), inaugurated the ceremony at 10.00am by hoisting the IOC flag. Acting Secretary General Mr Ashikur Rahman Miku hoisted the OCA flag and the Convener of Olympic Day 2022 Committee, Mr Asaduzzaman Kohinoor, hoisted the NOC Bangladesh flag. Athletes and officials from Olympic sports National Federations/Associations attended the ceremony.
Seminar on Sustainable Games and Sports
A seminar on the topic "Sustainable Games, Sports and IOC's Sustainable Strategy" was organised at Dutch Bangla Bank Auditorium of NOC Bangladesh at 11.00am. The keynote paper was presented by Mr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Siddique, National Course Director and Director, National Olympic Academy, NOC Bangladesh. Renowned columnist and trend researcher Mr Ekramuzzaman also contributed to the seminar. Representatives from Olympic discipline National Federations attended.
Children's Art Competition
The competition started at 3.00pm at the Media Center of Bangladesh Olympic Association. Children of two different age groups took part and a prize-giving ceremony was held at 5.00pm. Professor Shaikh Afzal Hossain, Chairman, Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University and Mr Syed Abul Barak Alvi, Honorary Professor, Department of Printmaking, Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University, judged the art works and presented the prizes to the winners. Mr K M Shahiulla, Member Secretary of Children's Art Competition, and Mr Asaduzzaman Kohinoor, Convener of Olympic Day 2022 Committee, were also present at the prize giving ceremony.
