Male, Maldives, July 23, 2022: President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih unveiled the official uniform for Team Maldives competing at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games from July 28-August 8 and the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey from August 9-18 at a ceremony at the President’s Office on July 19.
President Solih congratulated everyone for making the team and wished them the best of luck. He added that, by working together, the Government, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Maldives Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association of Maldives had prepared the athletes well for the two multi-sport games.
The uniform includes apparel for the opening and closing ceremonies, casual pieces for wearing at the Athletes Village as well as an official travel kit.
The uniforms sport traditional red and white, from the official colours of Maldives, and pay homage to the country’s magical beauty of the underwater life by embracing the “endheri” (black coral) as a dominant feature. The black coral intertwined in Maldivian culture represents the unique beauty and vulnerability of its unique deep coral reef environment.
The exclusive uniform was designed by Freelance Graphics designer Hassan Eman, who is no stranger to the challenge of delivering exceptionally unique designs. Hassan Eman, who previously worked with MOC, created the uniform by keeping in mind the importance of showcasing the Maldivian spirit and presenting a uniform that expresses the magnificent underwater sceneries and diverse marine life of Maldives.
The kit was manufactured by Stag International - a renowned company based in India engaging in multi-sport brands that caters to over 200 countries with a product range including equipment related to more than 20 sports.
