Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, July 22, 2022: The Asian Kickboxing Confederation has announced that the 2022 Asian Kickboxing Championships will be held in Bangkok from December 10-18.
The competition will be held in both Ring disciplines (Full Contact, Low Kick and K1) and Tatami disciplines (Point Fighting, Light Contact, Kick light and Musical forms).
Furthermore, the results of some of the defined categories (6 in Point Fighting “3 men and 3 women” and 6 in Low Kick “3 men and 3 women”) will be used as a qualification entry card of Asian Athletes for the 2023 Riyadh World Combat Games.
Sina Zahedi, Secretary General of the Asian Kickboxing Confederation, said: “Unfortunately, like many other Asian sport bodies, we had to postpone the 2020 Asian Championships because of the pandemic and this was later cancelled. However, after the decrease in COVID-19 pandemic cases, we have much better conditions and can prepare the organisation of our 2022 Asian Championships.”
Euncheon Jeong, Executive Board member and Technical Director of the Asian Kickboxing Confederation, added: “As the sole recognised body in charge of kickboxing in Asia, we have contributed significantly to the development of our sport throughout the continent by organising regularly the Asian Kickboxing Championships and many other events.
“The 2022 Asian Kickboxing Championships will be organised in two Rings and one Tatami in all kickboxing disciplines and weight categories with the collaboration of the Kickboxing Association of Thailand. The event will also be a preparation exercise for the 6th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games scheduled for Thailand in November 2023.”
The Asian Kickboxing Championships are held every two years. The 2016 event took place in early 2017 in Ashgabat as a test event for the 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games and the 2018 championships were held in Issyk Kul, Kyrgyz Republic.
