Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, July 19, 2022: We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of our long-serving former Secretary General, Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi.
Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi played a highly significant role towards the development of sports and his professional contributions advanced the Olympic Movement in Malaysia. He is known by many as one of the individuals responsible for the prospering of the OCM, being there from its early years to the institution that stands strong today.
Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi was driven throughout his professional life by the well-being and development of the OCM. He had volunteered his services to the OCM since 1974, where he had served in various Committees and Task Forces within the OCM before being elected as the Honorary Secretary in 1992. He had devoted his career to OCM, without any remuneration, throughout his tenure as the Honorary Secretary (1992-2013) and Secretary General (2013-2015) and Assistant Secretary General (2015-2018) of OCM.
Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi had left behind incredible legacies: the establishment of the administrative structure of OCM, the OCM Annual Dinner and Awards Night, the Olympian of the Year Awards, the OCM Hall of Fame, the Marketing and Sponsorship Program of OCM, the Tan Sri Alex Lee Athletes’ Education Fund, the OCM Trust Fund, the “B Category” Funding & Reimbursement Policy for the participation in Multi-Sport Games and many others.
I am honoured to have personally inducted Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi into the OCM Hall of Fame during the 26th OCM Annual Dinner and Awards Night on Wednesday, 19th December 2019.
The passing of Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi is indeed a great loss to the sporting fraternity and the Olympic Movement in Malaysia but his spirit and immense drive to our cause will continue to inspire all of us for a lifetime.
On behalf of the OCM, we wish to express our deepest condolences to his family members and may his soul rest in peace.
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria
