Doha, Qatar, July 17, 2022: Qatar won the silver medal in men’s beach handball at the 11th World Games in Birmingham, Alabama on July 15.
Qatar lost 2-1 to Croatia in the gold medal final yet, even in defeat, it was the best performance ever for the country at this event. At the previous edition of the World Games, held in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017, Qatar won the bronze medal.
The only Asian nation to qualify for the competition, Qatar emerged unbeaten in the main round with 2-0 victories over Argentina and Puerto Rico. They then defeated Brazil 2-1 in the semifinal.
In the final, Qatar won the first period 17-14 but Croatia levelled things up at 1-1 by taking the second period 20-16. Croatia then won the penalty shootout 9-6 to take the gold medal. Brazil beat USA 2-0 to claim bronze.
