Sri Lanka NOC briefs athletes and officials on Code of Good Conduct before Commonwealth Games

Colombo, Sri Lanka, July 14, 2022: A managers’ meeting of Team Sri Lanka for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games was held at the Colombo headquarters of the National Olympic Committee on Tuesday, July 12.

The meeting was chaired by Chef de Mission Major General (retd.) Dampath Fernando and was attended by managers, coaches and some athletes of the Sri Lankan contingent.

A total of 114 athletes and 51 officials will make up Team Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham later this month. Sri Lanka will compete in 15 of the 21 sports.

Following Chef de Mission Fernando’s opening speech, the managers’ briefing included topics like COVID-19, anti-doping, medical instructions and a Code of Good Conduct athletes were expected to follow in Birmingham.

The COVID-19 overview was presented by Dr. Himan de Silva, the COVID-19 liaison officer of Team Sri Lanka.

The Director General of Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency, Dr. Seevali Jayawickrema, addressed participants on anti-doping measures and testing procedures which will be conducted at the Games.

Dr. Lal Ekanayake, Director General of the Institute of Sports Medicine, briefed participants on sports medicine, while Gobinath Sivarajah, Press Attache of Team Sri Lanka, spoke on the Code of Good Conduct.
