Phnom Penh, Cambodia, July 13, 2022: The South East Asian Games Federation Council has awarded the 36th SEA Games in 2031 to Laos.

The decision was finalised at the SEAGF Council meeting in the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel on Wednesday morning, bringing to a conclusion three days of meetings and activities.

It was also decided to award the 37th SEA Games in 2033 to the Philippines, which hosted the 30th SEA Games in 2019.

The 31st SEA Games took place in Hanoi, Vietnam in May 2022 after being postponed from November 2021 due to the pandemic.

The new schedule for the biennial SEA Games, featuring 11 National Olympic Committees, is:

*32nd SEA Games, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, May 5-17, 2023

*33rd SEA Games, Thailand, 2025

*34th SEA Games, Malaysia, 2027

*35th SEA Games, Singapore, 2029

*36th SEA Games, Laos, 2031

*37th SEA Games, Philippines, 2033.

The SEA Games from 2025 to 2029 were awarded at the previous SEA Games Federation Council meeting in Hanoi in May, with Malaysia stepping in to host the 2027 SEA Games after Brunei withdrew. The Laos decision was on hold, however, pending official government support. Laos last staged the SEA Games in 2009.

In other news, the SEAGF Council confirmed 39 sports and one demonstration sport for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia next May.

The medal programme includes the late addition of cricket, while the demonstration sport will be teqball.

Five sports are still under consideration: archery, chess (International), gymnastics (rhythmic), kurash and shooting.

The list of events for the confirmed sports is expected to be announced in August.
