Phnom Penh, Cambodia, July 11, 2022: The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, opened the ASEAN Para Sports Federation and South East Asian Games Federation Council meeting at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh on Monday morning.
The Kingdom of Wonder will be hosting the SEA Games for the first time in history next May, followed by the ASEAN Para Games, and the Prime Minister said Cambodia would pull out all the stops to make it a big success.
“Cambodia has been waiting 64 years to host the SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games in 2023,” he told delegates from the 11 regional National Olympic Committees.
“We have to ensure our full capacity and mobilise all necessary resources for the excellent and smooth organisation of this spectacular regional sports event with a high sense of responsibility,” the premier underlined.
“As host of the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games in 2023, Cambodia has the ambition to welcome national and international guests and sports delegates with warmth, good hospitality and good service so as to provide the best experience during their participation in Cambodia.”
The premier said that international sport around the world shared the same goals and vision, to build a better world through peace and social stability. This would also develop the sports sector in the Kingdom for the long-term benefit of the people, he added.
The opening ceremony was followed by a venue tour. The meetings will open on Tuesday and conclude with the SEA Games Federation Council on Wednesday, when the final sports programme for the 32nd SEA Games next May 5-17 is expected to be confirmed.
The Prime Minister is President of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia and the Deputy PM, Tea Banh, is Chairman of the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC).
Dr Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, is President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and President of the SEA Games Federation Council.
