Lausanne, Switzerland, July 4, 2022: Athletes from 36 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have so far secured places at next year’s ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023 with the qualification process for the flagship event well underway.
Qualification has so far taken place in Open Water Swimming, Beach Handball and Karate in line with the Qualification Systems which have been developed in partnership with the respective International Federations.
All current Qualification Places are provisional and must still be confirmed by the International Federations.
The Qualification Systems aim to ensure the participation of the world’s best athletes at the ANOC World Beach Games while also placing an emphasis on universality with the Games open to all NOCs across all continents. The inaugural edition of the Games in Qatar in 2019 saw 1,200 athletes from nearly 100 NOCs from all five continents take part.
Acting ANOC President Robin Mitchell said: “It is fantastic to already see 36 NOCs qualify places for the ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023. The Qualification Systems are vital in ensuring as many NOCs as possible are represented at the Games while still maintaining the highest sporting standards.”
The qualifiers so far include:
*Open Water Swimming: Men - Japan, China, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan. Women - Japan, Hong Kong China, China and Korea.
*Beach Handball: Men - Qatar.
*Karate: Men – Japan. Women - Japan and Hong Kong China.
Qualification across all the sports will continue over the next 12 months.
