Malaysia, Cambodia NOCs strengthen ties

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, July 4, 2022: A small delegation from the Olympic Council of Malaysia made a courtesy visit to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia in Phnom Penh on Thursday, June 30.

The delegation was headed by Dato’ Chong Kim Fatt, Vice President of OCM, who was accompanied by Mr. Fong Wan Hor, General Manager of OCM. 

They were welcomed by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of NOCC and Chief Executive Officer of the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC).

The courtesy visit was part of the initiatives by the President of OCM, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, to strengthen the cooperation in sports development and the Olympic Movement between the OCM and other NOCs in the South East Asian region.

“We would like to thank the OCM, under the leadership of Tan Sri Dr. Norza Zakaria, for having initiated such a noble effort to promote the exchange of ideas and cooperation among NOCs,” Vath said.

“We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi who has provided great assistance and has always become our source of reference in many aspects for the organisation of the first SEA Games in Cambodia.” 

Meanwhile, Dato’ Chong Kim Fatt, who is also President of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia, President of the Wushu Federation of ASEAN-China and Executive Board member of the Wushu Federation of Asia and the International Wushu Federation, has confirmed the following assistance and long-term support for the development of wushu in Cambodia:

1. Donation of IWUF-certified wushu carpet and apparatus for training and competitions;

2. Training Camp for athletes, coaches and judges in either Malaysia or China;

3. Technical support for the organisation of the wushu competition during the 32nd SEA Games Cambodia 2023 next May.
