Phnom Penh, Cambodia, June 29, 2022: The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia hosted a meeting between the Asian and Cambodian chinlone federations to develop the sport ahead of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia next May.
Chinlone, which is the national sport of Myanmar and is also known as cane ball, looks set to be included in the next SEA Games under the more well-known southeast Asian sport of sepak takraw.
At the NOCC HQ in Phnom Penh on June 26, the Asian Chinlone Federation and Cambodian Chinlone Federation signed an agreement to help develop and promote chinlone in Cambodia.
The agreement was signed by U Soe Naing, President of the Asian Chinlone Federation and Myanmar Chinlone Federation, and by Dr. Meas Sarin, President of Cambodia Chinlone Federation.
The Secretary General of the NOCC and also of SEA Games organising committee CAMSOC, Vath Chamroeun, was present for the discussions.
President U Soe Naing was accompanied by the Asian Chinlone Federation Secretary and Myanmar Chinlone Advisor, U Pyae Sone Aung.
Chinlone is played with a rattan ball and tests the footwork skills of six player in a circle. It was introduced at the 2013 SEA Games, hosted by Myanmar, and competed in the 2015 Singapore SEA Games and 2017 Malaysia SEA Games, but did not appear in the 2019 Philippines SEA Games or the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam last month.
Cambodia will host the 11-nation SEA Games for the first time in history in Phnom Penh and four other cities and provinces from May 5-17, 2023.
