Iranian sports officials unveil bust of 1974 Asian Games boxing champion

Tehran, Iran, June 28, 2022: Two senior Iranian sports officials took part in a ceremony to unveil the bust of boxing veteran Masis Hambarsonian on Sunday, June 26 in the capital Tehran.

Dr. Seyed Hamid Sajjadi, Iran’s Minister of Sport and Youth, and Dr. Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, took part in the event to honour the former light-heavyweight boxer who won a gold medal at the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran.

In a short welcome speech, the Minister of Sport praised all veteran athletes for their commitment to bringing glory to the country and thanked them for their service.

NOC President Dr. Salehi Amiri labelled the occasion as an historic day for boxing in Iran and noted that former athletes were a national asset. He added that honouring past athletes sent an important message to the sports community that the veterans would never be forgotten.
