Kazakhstan's women boxers train with Japan ahead of Olympic qualifying tournament

Almaty, Kazakhstan, January 6, 2020: The Kazakhstan women’s boxing team is holding a joint training camp with Japan in Almaty.

The joint exercise, which began on Saturday and will run until January 14, is part of the build-up for next month’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification tournament in Wuhan, China.

“Our boxers are working tirelessly with the Japanese team. We will announce the final squad for the qualifiers – five boxers – later this month. We fly to Wuhan on January 30,” head coach Yerik Algabek said.

The Olympic boxing qualifying tournament for Asia and Oceania will take place from February 3-14 in Wuhan.

A total of 22 female boxers will book their Olympic tickets in five weight categories – 51kg, 57kg, 60kg, 69kg and 75kg.

In the men’s events, Asia and Oceania have 41 spots available in eight different weight categories ranging from flyweight (52kg) to super heavyweight (+91kg).
