New Delhi, India, June 19, 2022: Indian organisers of the Elite and Junior Asian Track Cycling Championships in New Delhi believe that the event offers a wonderful opportunity to showcase Asian cycling to the world.
The championships are running from June 18-22 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex and have attracted 400 athletes, female and male, from 16 countries.
The senior championships are being contested for the 41st time, while the juniors will compete for the 28th time in a series of individual and team races.
“It is an exciting time for the sport of cycling, emerging back from the covid pandemic, as we continue to grow, remaining always adaptable, motivated and responsive to the new challenges and expectations,” said a statement from the organising committee.
The committee said they were determined to make the event a “resounding success” and to bring glory to the Asian continent.
“We have a chance to showcase to the world the great prowess of the Asian continent in the sport of cycling,” the statement added.
The UCI-certified Cycling Velodrome at IG Sports Complex has a 250-metre wooden track and is part of the legacy of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. It is one of the finest velodromes in Asia, air conditioned and with a seating capacity of 3,000.
The Asian Track Cycling Championships are one part of the Asian Cycling Championships (Road & Track) that is exclusively for Asian cyclists selected by the national governing body and member nations of the Asian Cycling Confederation.
It’s an annual continental cycling championship for track cycling. Since 2017, competitions on road and track cycling are held separately.
