Male, Maldives, June 16, 2022: The Maldives Olympic Committee has appointed Aishath Shifana Wajeeh as the Chef de Mission of Team Maldives for the upcoming 5th Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Konya, Turkey from August 9-18.
Shifana is the first female to be appointed as Chef de Mission of a Maldivian sports delegation to a multi-sports event of this magnitude. A total of 59 countries will participate at the Islamic Solidarity Games, out of which 24 will be from Asia. There will be 21 sports on the medal programme.
The Maldives Olympic Committee has stated that they chose Shifana, a CEO of a Maldivian company, as it is believed that she will bring an exceptional level of insight, understanding and quality to Team Maldives and help deliver further success at the Games.
Maldives will take part in four sports – athletics, basketball, swimming and table tennis.
It is the second time that Maldives will be taking part at the Islamic Solidarity Games, having last competed in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2017.
