Wrestler Inam Butt elected Chair of Pakistan Olympic Association Athletes Commission

Lahore, Pakistan, June 13, 2022: Champion wrestler Muhammad Inam Butt has been elected unopposed as the Chair of the Athletes Commission of the Pakistan Olympic Association.

At a meeting of the Athletes Commission at Pakistan Olympic House, Lahore, last Friday, June 10, Butt was elected to lead the 12-strong panel which includes fellow Olympian Ms. Mahoor Shahzad as the female representative of the Athletes Commission on the POA General Council.

POA President Lt. Gen (retd.) Syed Arif Hasan congratulated the Chair and members of the Athletes Commission. In a message to the athletes, he said that athletes were a treasure and was confident that the Athletes Commission would play a positive role in uplifting national sport.

Butt thanked the POA for the continuous support in developing athletes’ platforms across the National Sports Federations. He said the International Olympic Committee placed emphasis on empowering athletes and noted the POA had always rendered invaluable support to the Athletes Commission.

Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, POA Secretary General, said the POA and the Olympic Family of Pakistan welcomed members of the Athletes Commission, and assured continuous support in its endeavours to empower athletes to take a lead role in the Olympic Movement in Pakistan.

The POA Secretary General added that he looked forward to the Athletes Commission to speak for their rights and responsibilities and strengthen sports integrity in Pakistan.
