Thimphu, Bhutan, June 12, 2022: His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, His Majesty’s Representative and President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, graced the opening ceremony of the Bhutan Grand Prix on Friday, June 10.

The archery grand prix is the first international-style compound archery tournament to be organised in Bhutan and is being held at the Changlingmethang Stadium in downtown Thimphu over three days.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Karma Tenzin, President of the Bhutan Archery Federation, highlighted the fact that the top four archers from the grand prix would be selected to represent Bhutan at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

“From the 22 archers present here, the top four will be selected to represent Bhutan for the Asian Games next year. We are also pleased to highlight that we have a lone female archer and a para-athlete competing in the event – and the youngest archer is a 14-year-old student.”

The archers shot 75 arrows in the ranking round on Friday, and each of the elimination rounds on Saturday involved 45 arrows. Only four archers advanced to the finals on Sunday, June 12.
