Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, June 5, 2022: The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee has reflected on a successful participation at the 3rd GCC Games staged in Kuwait last month.
Team Saudi won 67 medals at Kuwait 2022 comprised of 16 gold, 22 silver and 29 bronze and the SOPC highlighted the fact that female athletes had competed in the GCC Games for the first time.
“The Saudi women athletes who participated for the first time in this version of the games marked their presence with seven medals,” the SOPC said in a news release dated Sunday, June 5.
“Athletics led the way with the most medals - 24 (5-7-12), three of which were delivered thanks to the women athletes.”
The other 11 gold medals came in karate (4), esports (2) and one gold apiece in fencing, swimming, tennis, table tennis and archery.
In the team sports, the men’s national football team won silver and the women’s team took bronze. The men’s basketball team also delivered the bronze medal, while the ice hockey team won silver.
HH Prince Fahd bin Jalawi, SOPC vice president and delegation chef de mission, congratulated the athletes and thanked the games organising committee for their efforts in running the games. He also extended his thanks to the Saudi medical team, who supervised 190 cases, including 90 for athletes, throughout the games.
