Sri Lanka NOC selects 50 young artists for Asian Games art competition final

Colombo, Sri Lanka, June 2, 2022: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka is conducting a nationwide art competition on behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia for children under 13 years as part of the OCA’s “Asian Games for All” programme.

The competition gives all students the chance to be involved in the 19th Asian Games, to be held in Hangzhou, China, and live the experience regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.

A total of 837 students registered for the contest. The first phase was submitted online and, based on the submitted paintings/drawings, the best 50 were selected. These candidates were briefed online on June 1 about the final contest, which will take place at Sri Lanka Foundation, Colombo-7 on June 10.

The best 10 art works (five girls and five boys) will then be sent to the Asian Games organisers for final judging, and the top four (two girls and two boys) will be displayed in the Main Press Centre and at the OCA HQ Hotel during the Hangzhou Asian Games, which have been postponed from September 2022 to dates to be fixed in 2023.

*NOC President Suresh Subramaniam and Director General of Sports Amal Edirisooriya inspected the training of the high-performance wushu sanda team with international wushu coach Dr. Shiebak Abbas (Arasthu Abbas) of Iran at Torrington wushu training centre.

*The NOC will conduct the "Olympic Values Practice Session for Primary School Teachers" on June 23 at its headquarters in Colombo – 07 to mark Olympic Day. Only primary school teachers (Grade - 1 to Grade 5) are invited to register for this programme.

The educational programme will be in the morning from 0900-1200. Following the morning session, the teachers will have the opportunity to join the Olympic Day Walk 2022 together with top national athletes and officials from Independence Square to Olympic House.
