Dili, Timor Leste, May 31, 2022: The President of Timor Leste, Jose Ramos-Horta, held a reception for the Timor Leste delegation that competed in the recent 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
Timor Leste won three silver medals and two bronze medals at the 11-nation SEA Games, with middle-distance runner Felisberto de Deus collecting two silver medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m races at My Dinh National Stadium. Felisberto, 22, represented his country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games last summer.
Timor Leste’s third silver medal came from Delio Anzaqeci Mouzinho in men’s boxing 69kg-75kg.
Their two bronze medals were won by Jose Quintas Da Silva Barreto (men’s boxing, 52kg-57kg) and by Santina Adelaide de Sousa Fernandes (taekwondo – kyorugi, female under 49kg)
The President of the Republic congratulated the athletes, coaches and team officials for representing Timor Leste with honour and pride during the SEA Games, which ran from May 12-23 in Hanoi and 11 neighbouring provinces and cities.
He said their participation in the biennial regional sports fest had contributed to peace and friendship.
During the SEA Games, the Timor Leste delegation held a celebration at the HQ Hotel to mark the 20th anniversary of independence.
