Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 30, 2022: The new edition of the Olympic Council of Asia’s official magazine, Sporting Asia, is ready for download from the OCA website www.ocasia.org.
The 57th edition, for June 2022, reports on the postponement of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China from September 10-25, 2022 to new dates to be decided in 2023, as well as the cancellation of the Asian Youth Games in Shantou, China set for December 2022.
This was one of the most difficult decisions in the history of the OCA, and the front cover shows the latest image of the main stadium at Hangzhou Olympic and Expo Park, along with the recently completed, space-age silver Aquatic Centre on the right.
The new Sporting Asia also highlights the OCA’s ground-breaking development programme for coaches and referees in nine sports from 12 National Olympic Committees in West Asia, with six pages of reports and photos.
The first two phases of the programme have been completed at the OCA HQ and at sports venues in Kuwait, and the third and final phase will be conducted in early June.
The OCA visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan for the Executive Board meeting on May 6 and for the 30th anniversary celebrations of Uzbekistan NOC also feature prominently.
The new edition includes all the regular content such as Acting President’s Message, six pages of NOC News in Pictures, Inside the OCA and OCA Games Update, four pages of Women in Sport, News in Brief and the OCA sports diary.
Sporting Asia was launched by the OCA in 2009 and is published quarterly.
The 58th edition, for September 2022, will report on two major multi-sport games under the jurisdiction of the OCA - the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam from May 12-23 with 11 NOCs and the 3rd Gulf Games in Kuwait from May 13-31 with six NOCs – and Olympic Day celebrations throughout the continent.
