Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 22, 2022: Kuwaiti cycling ace Sayed Jaafar Al-Ali broke the stranglehold the United Arab Emirates had in cycling at the 3rd GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Games Kuwait 2022 by winning the gold medal in the men’s individual time trial on Sunday, May 22.

Arab cycling champion Sayed won the race against the clock in a time of 30 minutes 39.79 seconds, warding off stiff opposition from Emirati rider Yousif Mohamed Mirza who took the silver medal in 31:27.71.

Ahmed Madan of Bahrain won the bronze in 31:46.43.

Sayed’s triumph broke a string of gold medal wins by the United Arab Emirates. Emirati riders had won all three previous events – the men’s team time trial, the women’s team trial and the women’s individual time trial – at the Sheikh Jaber Bridge venue.

Cycling is one of the six sports at which women are making their debut for the first time at the Gulf Games.
