Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 19, 2022: The United Arab Emirates foursome of Safia Al-Sayagh, Shaikha Rashed, Zahra Hussain and Huda Hussain, created a little bit of history by becoming the first female athletes to win a gold medal in cycling at the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Games.
The Emirati quartet won the women’s team time trial at the 3rd Gulf Games in Kuwait to write their names down in posterity.
On a clear early Thursday morning, May 19, the four registered a time of 37 minutes 29.22 at the Sheikh Jaber Ahmad Al Sabah Bridge venue to win gold for the Emirates.
In second place for the silver medal was hosts Kuwait, in 37:57.96, while Bahrain won the bronze medal in 39:50.70.
Cycling is one of six sports where female athletes are making their debut at the Gulf Games. The others are athletics, esports, basketball (3x3), futsal and table tennis.
