SEA Games hosts Vietnam romp ahead at top of medals table

Hanoi, Vietnam, May 17, 2022: Hosts Vietnam are well on their way to capturing the overall team title at the 31st Southeast Asian Games.

At close of play on Monday, May 16, Vietnam are romping away at the top of the medals table with 88 gold, 54 silver and 55 bronze for a total of 197.

Thailand are a distant second, already 52 gold medals behind Vietnam, on 36-38-53 (127) followed by the 2019 SEA Games hosts and overall champions Philippines in third place with 30-34-44 (108).

Singapore, thanks largely to their swimming team, are fourth on 24-25-30 (79) with Indonesia in fifth place with 23-36-30 (89) and Malaysia in sixth on 19-24-44 (87).

Then there’s a big drop to Myanmar in seventh (4-5-9-18), 32nd SEA Games 2023 hosts Cambodia (1-4-10-15), Brunei Darussalam (1-1-1-3), Laos (0-1-13-14) and Timor Leste (0-1-0-1).

With almost 5,000 athletes from the 11 teams competing in 40 sports and 526 events, the 31st SEA Games are taking place from May 12-23 in Hanoi and 11 neighbouring cities and provinces.
