Kathmandu, Nepal, April 29, 2022: Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha inaugurated the Asian Games Art Festival on Thursday, April 28 – and gave the students a glimpse of his artistic talent.
President Shrestha said there was a close relationship between sport and art and encouraged the students to show their creativity in their work and reflect the joy of sport.
A total of 62 participants from 17 schools took part in the festival, which is one of the OCA’s three promotional activities under the “Asian Games For All” project ahead of Hangzhou 2022, along with the Asian Games Fun Run and Asian Games Youth Reporter Project.
The art competition is for students aged 13 and below, and the youngest entry was five years old.
Nepal NOC will organise an art exhibition on May 3 and the judges will choose the best five entries by girls and best five by boys, and the these top 10 will receive a special gift. All the participants will be presented with a participation certificate to recognise their contribution to the Olympic Movement in Nepal and Asia.
Two national athletes provided motivational words, as well as a sample of their art, to the students – Muna Basukala, who won table tennis bronze at the South Asian Games in Nepal in 2019, and Monday Kaji Shrestha, who won two gold medals in karate at the South Asian Games. They also told the students about their experience of a life in sport.
Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the Committee Chaturanand Rajbaidya expressed happiness to inform the new generation about Nepali sports through painting.
The students all received the painting materials and a souvenir t-shirt to celebrate the festival.
