Qatar volleyball begins preparations for Tokyo 2020 qualifying challenge

Doha, Qatar, December 30, 2019: The Qatar Olympic Committee reports that the national volleyball team launched its preparations for the Asian qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 at the QVA Headquarters Gym in Doha on December 23. The Asian qualifiers are scheduled to be held in China from January 7-12.

Ali Abdullah al Haddad has been named manager of the national team. Camilo Soto is the coach and Carlos Jermain is the fitness coach. Cornel Klinsky and Abdul Hafeez Asmawi are the statistician and therapist, respectively.

Sixteen players have been selected for the camp: Mubarak Dahi Waleed, Sultan Abdullah, Ahmed Jamal, Mohamed Ibrahim Said, Bilal Nabil, Suleiman Saeed, Milos Stevanovic, Nader Abu Bakr, Renan Rebeiro, Assam Mahmoud, Geraldo, Nagy Mahmoud, Khaled Samiah, Nikola, Othman Abdul Wahid and Ahmed Bassam.

On the domestic volleyball front, former champions Al Arabi Club have swept all nine matches in the first phase and lead the table with 25 points. 

Police, with seven wins and two losses, are in second spot, trailing the leaders by five points. In third place are Al Wakrah, who have tallied 19 points from seven wins in nine matches, followed by Al Rayyan (17) and Al Ahli (15).
