Malaysia CDM continues visits to SEA Games sports teams

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 18, 2022: Malaysia’s Chef de Mission for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam next month, Dato’ Paduka Nur Azmi Ahmad, continued his visits to different sports teams to view their preparations and provide encouragement and support.

The latest sports teams in his itinerary were diving, swimming, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and wushu ahead of the May 12-23 SEA Games in Hanoi and 11 neighbouring districts.

He was again accompanied by Mdm. Afrita Ariany Nasril, Deputy Chef de Mission, and officers from the Olympic Council of Malaysia, National Sports Council and National Sports Institute.

The diving team of 13 athletes (eight male and five female) will be led by the Malaysian diving legend Leong Mun Yee, a five-time Olympian and multi-medallist in the FINA World Championships, Asian Games, SEA Games and Commonwealth Games.

The swimming team of 14 athletes (11 male and three female) will be headed by Tan Chin Chin. The team is training under American coach Chris Martin.

The artistic gymnastics team comprises six male and four female gymnasts and will be headed by Foong Kok Seng. The men’s team is training in Baku, Azerbaijan. The others are under the supervision of the legendary gymnast, Olympian, Commonwealth/Asian/SEA Games multiple medallist Ng Shu Wai and are based at the National Sports Council.

The rhythmic gymnastics team of nine female athletes is led by Toh Ai Lee. The team will be participating in the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup Circuit, which will be held from April 22-24 in Baku, Azerbaijan, before heading to the 31st SEA Games.

The wushu team of 11 athletes (seven male and four female) is headed by the Assistant Secretary General of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia, Chong Fook Yan. The Sanda team is training at the Wushu Sanda Centre in Seremban and the other athletes are based at the National Sports Council.
