ITF President Haggerty visits Uzbekistan to see tennis progress

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, April 17, 2022: The President of the International Tennis Federation, David Haggerty, visited Uzbekistan to see first-hand the big plans for the development of tennis.

Haggerty arrived on Friday, April 15, and was met at the Tashkent International Airport by the Minister of Sports Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Adham Ikramov, and the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, Oybek Kasimov.

Uzbekistan Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov then received Haggerty.

Topics during discussions included the further development of tennis in Uzbekistan, holding major international events in the Republic, allocating grants from the ITF for local players to improve their skills in competitions overseas and attracting them to compete in ATP and WTA tournaments, as well as involving Uzbek officials in the top echelons of the ITF.

Haggerty, who was making his first visit to the country, then visited the Uzbekistan NOC where he met officials of the Ministry of Sports Development as well as NOC Deputy Chairman Sherzod Tashmatov and the Secretary General of the Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan, Iroda Tulaganova.

The ITF chief then visited the Republican Tennis School of the Olympic Reserve, where he met young tennis players and watched them training, and also dropped by at the State Museum of Timurid history.
