Asian Games men’s water polo champs Kazakhstan learn group opponents for FINA world championships

Budapest, Hungary, April 13, 2022: Asia’s strongest team in men’s water polo, Kazakhstan, have been drawn with the United States, Australia and Serbia in the 19th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in June.

The Kazakhs have won six of the seven Asian Games they have entered since 1994, including the last three. The only time they didn’t win gold was in Doha 2006 when they finished third and took bronze.

FINA announced the draw for the men's water polo on Tuesday, with the 16 teams in four groups, all to be played in different cities. Kazakhstan will play their Group D games in Szeged.

Asia’s other representatives in men’s water polo, Japan, will meet Greece, Germany and Croatia in Group B in Debrecen.

Japan have won the Asian Games title on four occasions, but the last time was in 1970.

The 19th FINA World Championships Budapest 2022 will run from June 18 to July 3.
