Tehran, Iran, April 6, 2022: Iran dethroned Qatar to win the 8th Asian Men’s Beach Handball Championship, and booked their place in the 2022 World Championship.

Iran defeated Qatar in their final match, 2-1, and qualified for the 10th IHF Men’s Beach Handball World Championship to be held in Heraklion, Greece from June 21-26, 2022.

Qatar, the five-time and defending Asian champions, had entered the six-team tournament as favourites, but Iran came from one set down to win 16-17, 14-12, 12-10 and claim the Asian crown.

Qatar has won every Asian Championship since 2011.

Both Iran and Qatar finished the group with eight points but, due to the head-to-head results, Iran won the gold medal and Qatar had to settle for the silver. Vietnam took the bronze.

Iran and Qatar will represent Asia at the World Championship.

Oman finished fourth, followed by the Philippines and India.
