Baseball/softball centre undergoes lighting test for Hangzhou Asian Games

Hangzhou, China, March 31, 2022: The finetuning of the baseball and softball stadium continues for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China this September.

The latest activity was the detailed check of the lighting system at the stadium in Shaoxing – one of the five co-host cities outside of Hangzhou.

The Shaoxing Baseball and Softball Sports Centre has 5,000 fixed seats in the main stadium. The centre is partly covered by a steel membrane that provides shelter for certain activities. The ripples on the top reflect the characteristics of the Jiangnan Water Town.

Baseball games will be held here from September 12-18 and softball games from September 18-24.

The centre has a total construction area of 160,000 sq metres and is the largest baseball and softball venue that meets the standards of international events in China. It is a four-field complex to serve the two sports.

The four ballparks are at the core of a wider construction project, which is set to improve the surrounding facilities and create a future community where sports industry, city culture and natural ecology are integrated.

There will be 40 sports, 61 disciplines and 482 events at the 19th Asian Games from September 10-25, 2022, with 55 competition venues around Zhejiang province in eastern China.

Shaoxing will also host sport climbing, women’s basketball as well as baseball and softball.
