Phnom Penh, Cambodia, March 20, 2022: Cambodia will field a squad of more than 500 athletes at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi this May.
The update was provided by Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee and NOC Cambodia, on the sidelines of the Chefs de Mission meeting in Hanoi.
Chamroeun said that the meeting would be a good opportunity for Cambodia to examine the preparations of the host country for the 31st SEA Games to be held from May 12-23.
During the meeting, there will be a special session between CAMSOC and the Vietnam SEA Games Organising Committee to strengthen cooperation before Phnom Penh hosts the 32nd SEA Games in May 2023.
It will be the first time in history for Cambodia to host the 11-nation SEA Games since the event was first held in 1959.
According to Chamroeun, another Cambodia delegation led by Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence and President of CAMSOC, accompanied by Dr Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, Permanent Vice President of CAMSOC and NOCC President, will receive the SEA Games flag from Vietnam during the closing ceremony in Hanoi on May 23.
More than 7,000 athletes will compete for medals in 526 events across 40 sports at the Hanoi SEA Games.
