Hangzhou, China, March 18, 2022: The China Hangzhou Esports Centre, which will be the esports venue of the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, was officially powered up and connected to the national state grid on Tuesday, March 15.

The venue, which started construction on September 24, 2020, is the first of its kind in China. It covers an area of 80,000 square metres and can accommodate 4,087 spectators. One of its most unique features is its vortex-like ceiling.

With delicate planning and a careful layout, the venue is able to meet needs for both during and after the Asian Games which will be held from September 10-25, 2022.

“Esports venues require extra electricity supply for its larger number of electronic devices and network maintenance,” explained Lai Cong, a staff member of the Hangzhou branch of the State Grid.

Esports will debut as a medal sport at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou after being a demonstration sport at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.

There will be eight medal events: Arena of Valour Asian Games Version; Dota 2; Dream Three Kingdoms 2; EA Sports FIFA branded soccer games; HearthStone; League of Legends; PUBG Mobile Asian Games Version; and Street Fighter V.
