Malaysia to send 612 athletes to Hanoi SEA Games

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, March 15, 2022: Malaysia will send 612 athletes to the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.

The 31st SEA Games will take place in Hanoi from May 12 to 23, with 526 events across 40 sports. It was originally scheduled for 2021 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an announcement on Sunday, March 13, the Olympic Council of Malaysia stated that it would send a contingent of 818, including 206 team officials, and would participate in 37 of the 40 sports. The three sports Malaysia will not participate in are handball, Vovinam (Vietnamese martial art) and wrestling.

Of the total of 612 athletes, 377 are male and 235 female.

More than 7,000 athletes from 11 countries are expected to take part in the SEA Games. The 11 countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and hosts Vietnam.
