Baghdad, Iraq, March 9, 2022: The National Olympic Committee of Iraq recognised the outstanding contribution of women in sport at a special ceremony to mark International Women’s Day on March 8 at the NOC HQ in Baghdad.
The NOC President, Raad Hammoudi, welcomed the participants and praised the role of elite female athletes and NOC staff in the success of the Olympic movement in Iraq.
He said that Iraq NOC was following the International Olympic Committee’s guidelines to promote the participation of women in sport at all levels and to strive for gender equality.
The event was attended by senior NOC staff, including Secretary General Haitham Abdulhameed, and by government officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sport as well as representatives from women’s rights and empowerment organisations.
At the end of the ceremony, the NOC President distributed gifts and commemorative shields to acknowledge the contribution of elite female athletes and NOC staff to the sports movement in Iraq.
