Lahore, Pakistan, March 4, 2022: The Pakistan Olympic Association warmly welcomed the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Muhammad Afzal, to discuss the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Lord Mayor was paying a special visit to his home country of Pakistan and acting as an ambassador for Birmingham under plans to promote the city’s business and tourism.
Leading a seven-member delegation, the Lord Mayor visited the Commonwealth Games Association Pakistan headquarters in Lahore where he was welcomed by office bearers and executive committee members of CGA Pakistan, Head of Women’s Cricket, Pakistan Cricket Board and Chairman Athletes Commission CGA.
“This visit to Pakistan aims to demonstrate what the Games is about, and the opportunities it brings not only to our city but the wider West Midlands – in particular business and tourism,” the Lord Mayor was quoted by the British media on the eve of his trip.
A presentation was made by CGA Pakistan about the participation of Pakistan at the Birmingham Games from July 28 to August 8.
The Lord Mayor thanked the leadership of CGA Pakistan for their warm welcome and offered his complete support to Pakistan’s participationat the Games.
The Lord Mayor moved from Pakistan to Birmingham as a child with his family in 1969. Last December, Pakistan hosted the Queen’s Baton Relay for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
