FINA President pledges full support to develop swimming in Maldives

Male, Maldives, March 1, 2022: The President of FINA, Husain Al Musallam, has said that the world governing body is committed to helping the development of swimming in the Maldives.

 During a recent visit to the capital Male, Mr Al Musallam met with the Maldives Olympic Committee and pledged FINA’s full support for swimming.

“I would like to reassure you that FINA is committed to developing swimming all over the world and in Maldives especially,” he said. “It is our duty as an International Sport Federation to focus on the development of swimming.

 “First, we have to develop the infrastructure – and infrastructure goes with the human aspect, athletes, coaches and officials.  

 “Secondly, the basic requirement, which is the swimming pool, to give the chance to every child here in Maldives the possibility of how to swim, and learn to swim and to enjoy life.”

 The Maldives Olympic Committee reported that the FINA President and Olympic Council of Asia Director General viewed the proposed new aquatics centre in Male developed by the Swimming Association of Maldives.

 He was welcomed by the President of MOC, Mohamed Abdul Sattar, Vice Presidents Ahmed Ismail and Mohamed Tholal, Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed and members of the Executive Committee.

 During the meeting, Mr Al Musallam shared the OCA’s plans to provide assistance for individual and team sports for their preparation at international competitions. He also stressed the OCA’s initiatives to promote women in sport and emphasized the important role of women in the sports movement.

 The OCA Director General said the OCA would assist in the development of the administrative and sporting development in the Maldives by aiding the Maldives Olympic Committee to build Olympic House.
