New Delhi, India, February 21, 2022: Indian Olympic Association President Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra has stated that the 2023 IOC
Session in Mumbai will be a stepping stone for India to bid for the 2036 Olympic Games and 2030 Youth Olympic Games.
“It means that it is a beginning, or a stepping stone, towards big events coming to India. We are going to make all our efforts to host
the 2036 Olympics and the 2030 Youth Olympics in India,” Batra was
quoted by ANI news agency.
On Saturday, February 19, IOC Members during the 139th Session in Beijing elected Mumbai to become the host of the IOC Session in May-June 2023.
“I think India is going to become a sporting powerhouse in future, and pretty soon. The economic growth and the 650 million youth of this country are going to make a big difference. We will most probably be
the third-largest economy in the world in the next few years.
“After 40 years we have got this event again and it is high time that all these big ticket events and functions start coming to India. I
think it is a very proud moment. When IOC delegates from all over the world come and when they see India, they will know that everything is possible in India,” Batra added.
Dr. Batra lauded the joint effort – by the IOA, IOC Member in India Mrs. Nita Ambani, the first individual Olympic gold medallist, shooter
Abhinav Bindra, the Sports Ministry and the Indian government – which
won the bid to host the IOC Session in 2023.
“When you work together in a coordinated manner then the end result is
like this. We are quite hopeful with things going this way. We will
certainly be trying to get the bids to get the 2036 Olympics and 2030
Youth Olympics to India,” he added.
