IOC Session elects five new Members

Beijing, China, February 19, 2022: The 139th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) resumed its proceedings in Beijing on Saturday, February 19 with several rounds of elections.

Following the recommendations made by the Executive Board (EB) in December 2021 and on February 18, 2022, the Session elected five new IOC Members for a term of eight years. 

They are: 

*Yiech Pur Biel (IOC Refugee Olympic Team athlete and manager)

*Danka Barteková (Slovakia)

*David Lappartient (France – President, International Cycling Union - UCI)

*Martin Fourcade (France – new member of IOC Athletes’ Commission)

*Frida Hansdotter (Sweden – new member of IOC Athletes’ Commission). 

There are now 106 IOC Members including 15 active athletes.

The Session also elected a new Vice President, Juan Antonio Samaranch (Spain), starting from May 20, 2022, and re-elected two Executive Board members, Nenad Lalović (Serbia) and Ivo Ferriani (Italy), for four years.

Following the decision to streamline the institutional meetings in Beijing due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the 139th IOC Session will conclude on May 20, 2022.
