Beijing, China, February 17, 2022: Athlete365 – the official community for Olympians and elite athletes – has paid tribute to Timor-Leste’s Alpine skier Yohan Goutt Goncalves as an athlete and ambassador for his country.
Yohan competed in the men’s giant slalom and slalom in the Beijing Winter Olympics – his third straight Olympic appearance after making his debut at Sochi 2014 and then also competing at PyeongChang 2018.
At the Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Centre, the 27-year-old Timor-Leste representative recorded a DNF (did not finish) in the giant slalom but recovered from the disappointment to complete both runs of the slalom on Wednesday to finish in 45th position. A total of 43 skiers did not finish the slalom on the Ice River course.
Athlete365 said: “Putting his country on the map: This is Yohan Goutt Goncalves. He's doing Timor-Leste proud as their only competitor at Beijing 2022.
“He's also an active Athlete365 community member. Not only is he supported by Olympic Solidarity, but he's also taken advantage of our Airbnb Olympian Experiences offer.
“With support from Athlete365, he and his mother run an Airbnb Olympian Experience that introduces people to Timorese cuisine and culture.”
Yohan has a Timorese mother and French father and is the first Winter Olympian for Timor-Leste.
His Facebook account has 40,000 followers and he posted: “What a cool Olympic race! I had a bad first run; second run was better but made a big mistake!
“And the result? 45th place for Timor-Leste at the slalom at Beijing 2022.”
