Tehran, Iran, February 13, 2022: The President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, has welcomed his Iraqi counterpart, Raad Hammoudi, to further discuss sporting ties between the two countries.
The NOCs of Iran and Iraq signed a Memorandum of Understanding on sports cooperation last December with Iranian head Salehi Amiri visiting Baghdad on that occasion for the signing ceremony.
In a reciprocal visit, Iraq NOC chief Hammoudi arrived on Saturday, February 12 at the head of a large delegation of Iraq NOC officials, presidents of a number of national sports federations as well as Iraq’s Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Naseer Abdul Mohsen.
The bilateral meeting will look at ways to implement the MOU, and also forge ties between the national federations of a number of sports in both countries.
In a statement, the Iraq NOC said the MOU would result in joint sports cooperation and bilateral meetings between the heads of sports federations and the exchange of information and experience regarding preparations and programmes to benefit Iraqi athletes and national teams.
Among the sports federations taking part in the meetings were the heads of baseball, karate, judo, taekwondo and wrestling.
