Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, February 10, 2022: The Saudi Games 2022 organising committee today revealed that the Arabian leopard will be the mascot of the first edition of the Games, which will run from March 10-20 in Riyadh.
The committee chose the Arabian leopard as part of the campaign to increase awareness and prevent the extinction of the animal.
In addition, it will also help define the goals of the Global Arabian Leopard Fund to the public and promote the cause, especially after the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) warned the animal is a critically endangered species.
The kingdom has taken this initiative to heart and, according to The Royal Commission for Al Ula Governorate, in September 2021 a female Arabian leopard cub was born. In addition, the Council of Ministers marked February 10 as Arabian Leopard Day.
The mascot includes the games logo with three colours of the Arabian leopard.
The games organising committee encourages everyone to participate and propose names for the mascot through the link: تميمة الألعاب السعودية
