Saudi Games 2022 to welcome 6,000 athletes in March

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, February 9, 2022: The Saudi Games 2022 will be held in the capital Riyadh from March 10-20 and will feature 6,000 athletes competing in 45 sports and disciplines.

 

The Organising Committee for the Saudi Games 2022 announced the Opening Ceremony for the Games will be held at King Fahd International Stadium.

 

The preliminary qualification round will begin on February 16 and is open to locals, amateur as well as professional athletes from all the Saudi national sports federations.

 

The Saudi Games 2022 is one of the Quality of Life initiatives in the country’s Vision 2030, which focuses on increasing the participation numbers in physical activity within society. The Organising Committee noted that opening the door for locals to compete will ensure the initiative’s execution and help unearth new talent in various sports.

 

The 45 sports and disciplines were picked after evaluating criteria for the 13 Saudi provinces based on the game’s popularity, technicality, and rules and regulations of the International Olympic Committee and International Federations.

 

The 45 sports and disciplines are: archery, athletics, aikido, badminton, basketball (3x3 and the regular version), beach volleyball, billiards, bowling, boxing, balut (traditional card game), camel racing, chess, cycling (road), equestrian (endurance and showjumping), esport, fencing, futsal, golf, gymnastics, handball, indoor rowing, judo, jujitsu, karate, karting, kickboxing, padel, muay thai, sambo, shooting, sport climbing, skateboarding, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, water polo, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu.
