Beijing, China, February 2, 2022: With Filipino sport on a high, the President of the Philippine Olympic Committee has shown his personal support for the Winter Olympics campaign of its lone athlete, Asa Miller.
The POC President, Cong. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, greeted the alpine skier at the training site on Wednesday and took souvenir photos with “Team Asa”.
Miller, 21, will be competing in his second Winter Olympics for the Philippines following a 70th place finish at PyeongChang 2018 in men’s giant slalom.
Born in Oregon, USA to an American father and mother from Manila, Miller feels the experience from four years ago will lead to an improved performance in Beijing.
Earlier this week, the POC President congratulated the women’s football team for qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 for the first time in history, while the country is still experiencing a feelgood factor for the first Olympic gold medal in 97 years by weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in Tokyo last summer.
